Meet Lauren Toner

I am coming to you with education, passion, and real-life experience!

Welcome! My name is Lauren Toner. I grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia. I am supported by a wonderful family, a number of close friends, and a host of friendly mentors. I am grateful for my tribe, as each one of them guided me until I was really ready to do it on my own.

I began my own healing journey when I was 12 years old, back in 2007. As a teen, I struggled a lot with my own mental health, peer acceptance, and various life challenges. I was a meek little girl continually battered by the world around her. Today, 15 years later, I stand before you as a young woman not afraid to stand in her power; in addition, I sincerely enjoy the life that I am building for myself.

Throughout these years of personal development, I have gained much wisdom. Here are some of the things I have learned and continually develop:

I have found my self-worth.

I have learned to like myself.

I have developed a positive mental attitude.

I have learned to value my authentic, genuine nature.

I have learned to value my soft-hearted, kind, and sometimes emotional soul.

I have overcome trauma, strong negative emotions, and poor behaviour patterns.

I have learned to listen to, validate, and understand my emotions.

I have learned how to manage and overcome my emotions.

I have learned how to manage my depressive and anxious episodes.

I have strong support systems.

I have developed close, reliable friendships.

I have truly learned to value myself.

I am authentically happy most of the time.

I authentically like myself!

Healing comes in layers, so while I have achieved these things there is always more work to be done. Just like everyone else, I have bad days all of the time; however, with the resilience mindset that I have built I know how to get back up, even more than that, I know how to get back up stronger. While there is always more healing and self-discovery to do, I am pleased to say that I have completed this work to a level that I am quite proud of.

I think a strong testament to someone's growth is to later reach back and help others. It is why I love what I do! In the times that they need it most, I love supporting my clients in whatever form that may be in the moment. Sometimes it is a space to cry and feel heard, while other times, it is a space to confront challenges and learn from them. Always, however, it is a space for you to feel welcomed, validated, seen, and cared for. Healing is not easy; not only does it take work to heal, but it also takes courage. To do so safely, you will need the right support behind you every step of the way. Let that be me!

As of June 2022, I obtained my Master of Arts Counselling Psychology (MACP) graduate degree from Yorkville University. In my undergraduate studies, I obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary's University. In addition to formal education, I am consistently undergoing workshops, certification programs, and additional personal development.

I have big plans for Raised Resilience. Someday soon, I plan to create a movement of resiliency across Atlantic Canada.
